To the surprise of many, in the last financial report of Sony there was no new information about the sales of the PlayStation 4 during the first quarter of the current fiscal year. Instead, the Japanese company only offered a general number of the console, implying that they no longer have plans to reveal how many units the PS4 has sold every three months.
Considering that the industry is gradually leaving aside the PS4 and Xbox One to give its deserved space to the PS5 and Xbox Series X | s, with more companies creating exclusive experiences of the new generation, this should not be a big surprise. As a last fact, Sony revealed that the PS4 sold a total of 117.2 million units since its launch on November 15, 2013, until March 31, 2022.
To put this number in context, only the family of Game Boy, with 118.7 million units, the Nintendo DS, with 154 million, and the PS2, with more than 155 million, are ahead of the PS4. However, the Nintendo Switch currently has 111 million consoles sold, and It is expected that this platform will be able to overcome Sony's previous generation by the end of the current fiscal year.
In related issues, Sony plans to abandon the PS4 within the next three years.
Editor's note:
Without a doubt, a fairly simple conclusion for a great generation. The PS4 housed some of the best games in recent years, and was the point of entry to video games for many. This console will be surprised, but it is time to see the future.
